Well, RR 73 has had an eventful and exciting first quarter in 2008. Thus far, our fundraising has been phenomenal. Thanks to our combined efforts, our Roost has raised over $10,000.00 to support our charities. And, the best part is, we have enjoyed the company of our fellow roost members in doing just that. Just read ahead to find out more!
POLAR BEAR
PLUNGE

Five hearty members allowed Ravens Roost 73 to donate $3,300 in pledges to Maryland Special Olympics at the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. On January 26, eight days before the Super Bowl, the fantastic five of Sandra Braun, Amanda Busch, Nancy Smith, Shane Spurrier and Lisa Yost ventured into the chilly waters of the Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park. Another 20 presumably saner members of the RR 73 family were there to warm up their Roost mates.
BULL AND OYSTER ROAST

Our philanthropy enjoyed another milestone on March 1, when nearly 400 members and friends gathered at Rosedale Gardens to enjoy fun, food, fellowship and the rock and roll of No Pets for Noah at our 3rd annual Bull and Oyster Roast. We raised – drum roll, please – a grand total of $6,676 to support our charities including the athletic scholarships we present annually to seniors at Chesapeake High School. At the rate this affair is growing, we’ll have to rent M&T Bank Stadium one day.
Congratulations to Gail Weaver, who was voted our MVP for 2008. A plaque was presented to Gail by Mark Yost at the event.
REACHING OUT…….EIO FOOD PANTRY
Merle Bolger, director of the Eastern Interfaith Outreach’s Food Pantry, stopped by our March meeting to express her appreciation for the manner in which Ravens Roost 73 has embraced the cause. Doing our part to fill a very real need in our community, we thus far had donated dozens of bags and boxes of canned goods and other non-perishable items, and underscored our commitment with a monetary donation of $545. A special thanks goes out to Mary McMullen, who sparked this outreach. This is an ongoing effort, so please continue to bring donations to the monthly meetings.
GUEST BARTENDING
Despite matching its previous efforts at the cash register, Ravens Roost 73 finished a close second in the Guest Bartending Competition at Carson’s Creekside with our March 11 effort. The grand prize, as in the past, would have supported our many charities. Plenty of members, family and friends joined in the fun.

Fanwatch…….Amanda Busch
Amanda Busch (like the beer not the president, as she put it) has been a member of Ravens Roost 73 for just about a year. She learned about the Roost from working at Lenny’s and through Bridgett Palmer. Bridgett invited Amanda to come on the Atlantic City trip and she joined soon after. Born at Franklin Square Hospital in 1984 (making her 24 years old), Amanda has lived in Baltimore all her life and has 2 brothers. She rents a house on Wilson Point where she lives with her cat Ichabod. Amanda works two jobs – she runs the kitchen at Laidback Lenny’s where she is working on developing some new menu items and she also works at Thornton’s pub in Locust Point. When she is not working, Amanda loves to read, spend time outdoors fishing and boating and she is a very talented artist. Some of her artwork can be seen on a daily basis on the whiteboard at Lenny’s. Amanda’s favorite beverage is a Guiness and her favorite Raven is Todd Heap. Next time you see Amanda, ask her to show you one of her 3 tattoos and give her any suggestions you might have for new menu items at Lenny’s.
